Hunt Tests
Hunt tests are designed as a way to test your retriever’s progress in learning the skills needed in hunting situations. The dogs are graded to the HRC standard. There are no first, second, or third places. You pass the test and you get a ribbon. Pass enough tests and you gain HRC titles.
While the ribbons and titles are a great measuring stick and reward for your hard work, most members are all about hunting. Tests give you a way to push your dogs and yourself. Here is a brief description of the requirements of each test. Distances and difficulty increase at each level.
- Started: Two single land retrieves, two single water retrieves.
- Seasoned: A double land retrieve and a double water retrieve. A water blind retrieve, a land blind retrieve. A walk up and a diversion.
- Finished: A triple land retrieve and a triple water retrieve. a water blind retrieve, a land blind retrieve, a diversion and honoring a working retriever.
- Upland: The Upland Game Test shall consist of a simulated walk-up hunt, a quartering test, and an optional tracking test. The retriever is required to be steady to wing and shot.
